CSA with
Monroe Organic Farms
Registration is now open for the Minyan Na'aleh
Hazon CSA 2011 season! There are limited shares available, so we suggest
registering early as we anticipate to sell out. THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS APRIL 29, 2011.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA members support a local farmer by paying a set fee before the summer, which entitles members to a share of the produce during the harvest season.
What Will I Get?
For 18 weeks (either beginning the 2nd or 3rd week of June) you will receive produce weekly from Monroe Organic Farms located in Kersey, CO. A few of the benefits to joining our CSA are:
- Delicious, locally grown organic produce picked weekly within one day
- An opportunity to eat seasonally
- A chance to try vegetables you may not typically find at the grocery store
- Opportunity to pick your own asparagus and strawberries at Monroe Organic Farms (at no additional cost, no less!)
- Be part of a 75 year old tradition ! Monroe is the oldest organic farm in Colorado
How Will I Get My Produce?
During the season on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (will know exact day closer to season beginning) between 4:00-6:00PM you can pick up your weekly share of produce at Ekar: Urban Jewish Farm (6825 Alameda Ave, Denver- next to Denver Academy of Torah).
How Much Does it Cost?
There are three produce share sizes to choose from:
1) FULL SHARE- $175+$445 = $620 ($34.44/week)
Feeds 3 adults on a vegetarian diet or a family up to 6 on a mixed diet
2) HALF SHARE- $175+$265= $440 ($24.44/week)
Feeds 2 adults on a vegetarian diet or a young family of four on a mixed diet
3) SINGLE SHARE- $175+$160= $335 ($18.61/week)
Feeds 1 adult on a vegetarian diet or 2 on a mixed diet
You will not end up paying more than you would purchasing organic produce at the store, but you do need to pay up front. No matter which share you chose, Monroe has a mandatory $175 membership fee. As you will see on the registration Form below, you may also join the Western Slope Fruit Share; Honey Share; and Egg Share for additional costs. Volunteering
Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to run a CSA program, we ask that each member volunteer to distribute produce twice during the season. We will be sending out a volunteer sign-up sheet once we have a list of members. Please email [email protected] if you would like to be a part of the core planning team, please contact.
What is Hazon?
Hazon creates healthy and sustainable communities in the Jewish world and beyond. Minyan Na'aleh is grateful to be partnering once again with Hazon to offer this CSA.
What Makes This CSA Different From All Other CSA’s?
The Minyan Na'aleh Hazon CSA offers all of the benefits of a traditional CSA with the added bonus of forming connections within the Denver Jewish community. As a member, you will have the opportunity to meet like-minded people who are committed to building a stronger community and supporting the environment. We will gather together for meals, farm visits, and other programs to form connections with one another and explore the links between Judaism, agriculture, and the food we eat.
